Project Overview

We have been appointed to the project in the second half of 2022 until mid-2023. iMB.Solutions has carried out various project missions in the commodity sector in South America over the last few years.

The project is structured around a comprehensive feasibility study designed to assess the potential for increasing local content in the supply chain and operational processes in Bolivia and Chile. The study evaluated the current state of the local mining industry, identify opportunities for collaboration with local suppliers, and propose strategies for integrating local content into the company’s operations.

Objectives of the Project Mission

Assess the Current Market Landscape

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the existing mining supply chain in Bolivia and Chile.

  • Identify key local suppliers, capabilities, and the potential for collaboration.

  • Evaluate regulatory and policy frameworks that could impact the inclusion of local content.

Identify Opportunities for Local Content Integration

  • Explore opportunities for sourcing equipment, materials, and services locally.

  • Assess the potential for technology transfer and capacity building with local partners.

  • Develop strategies for enhancing local employment and skill development.

Develop a Strategic Implementation Plan

  • Create a roadmap for integrating local content into the company’s operations.

  • Propose timelines, budgets, and resource allocations for implementing the strategy.

  • Identify risks and mitigation strategies to ensure the successful execution of the plan.

Project Management Structure

Given the complexity of the project, it is essential to have a well-defined management structure to ensure smooth execution and achieve the desired outcomes. The project will be managed through a combination of cross-functional teams, local partnerships, and strong leadership from the North American headquarters.

Project Leadership and Governance

The project was be led by a dedicated project manager from iMB.Solutions with extensive experience in the mining industry and a deep understanding of the Bolivian and Chilean markets. Our project manager reported directly to senior executives in the North American headquarters, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall strategic objectives.

A project steering committee, comprising key stakeholders from the company’s leadership team and regional offices in Bolivia and Chile, provided oversight and guidance. This committee met regularly to review progress, address challenges, and make strategic decisions.

Cross-Functional Teams

To ensure a holistic approach, the project involved cross-functional teams from various departments, including supply chain, engineering, procurement, and legal. These teams collaborated closely to gather data, assess opportunities, and develop strategies for local content integration.

Each team had a designated leader responsible for coordinating efforts within their function and ensuring alignment with the overall project goals. Regular team meetings and workshops were held to foster collaboration and share insights.

Local Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

Given the focus on increasing local content, building strong partnerships with local suppliers, communities, and government agencies in Bolivia and Chile was crucial. The project involved extensive stakeholder engagement to ensure buy-in and support from all relevant parties.

Local representatives from the company’s regional offices played a key role in building these relationships and facilitating communication between the project team and local stakeholders. These representatives also were responsible for navigating the local regulatory environment and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and policies.

Monitoring and Evaluation

To ensure the project stays on track and delivers the expected outcomes, a robust monitoring and evaluation framework was established. Key performance indicators (KPIs) were defined at the outset of the project to measure progress toward increasing local content.

Regular progress reports were generated and shared with the project steering committee and senior executives. These reports included updates on milestones, budget status, risks, and any corrective actions taken to address challenges.
